We think this vintage toy is cool because Betty Boop is timeless, or so we’ve been told by the internet. We actually weren’t alive at the height of her popularity or hay day (as the OG folks who were around then would say)!
Why is Betty Boop cool? Oh, wait!—”Who is Betty Boop?”—you may ask…like we did…
According to Wikipedia: Betty Boop debuted on August 9, 1930, in the Fleischer Studios cartoon short Dizzy Dishes. Created by Grim Natwick, she originally appeared as an anthropomorphic French poodle before transforming into a human Jazz Age flapper who became an international animation icon and sex symbol.
Writing this tidbit, we actually had our memory jogged and realized that dear Betty made a cameo appearance in 1988’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Appearing in classic black-in-white, she was voiced by her original 1930’s voice acress Mae Questel.
Fast forward 100 years from her creation, this rare gem of a toy has emerged for sale to bring any lucky buyer nostalgic pleasure. Hang her in your foyer to impress your guests or rest her atop the Christmas tree for grandpa. No matter where you hang Betty, interesting conversations will surely follow. We can’t guarantee much, but we can certainly guarantee this.
